About me

My name is Keith Wansbrough, and I am currently Michael and Morven Heller Research Fellow in Computer Science at St. Catharine's College, of the University of Cambridge, in Cambridge, England (see my home page in college). I am based in the university's Computer Laboratory (what in other universities would be called the Computer Science Department).

Prior to my fellowship, I was a Research Associate at the Computer Laboratory, working on the EPSRC research grant Wide-area programming: Language, Semantics and Infrastructure Design. This work continues as the Semantics for Network Programming group.

In 2002 I completed my PhD thesis on usage types for lazy functional languages, under the co-supervision of Simon Peyton Jones at Microsoft Research Cambridge and Andy Pitts at the Computer Laboratory. My PhD was funded by a Commonwealth Scholarship, and I was at the college Clare Hall. I commenced my PhD in October 1997 at the Department of Computing Science of the University of Glasgow, in Glasgow, Scotland, and transferred to Cambridge in September 1998.

Prior to my PhD I spent five years studying at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Auckland, in Auckland, New Zealand, where I obtained an MSc in Computer Science with Distinction and a BSc(Hons) First Class in Computer Science. My Masters thesis was A Modular Monadic Action Semantics.

For more information on my research past and present, please visit my research page.

I come originally from Auckland, the largest city in the beautiful country of Aotearoa / New Zealand, sadly about as far from Cambridge as you can get without coming back the other way.

On November 24, 2000, I finally got married to Carolyn McEwan. Carolyn has completed her PhD, Stimulation of a Human Neuroblastoma Cell Line using a Planar Microelectrode Array, in Cell Engineering up in Glasgow, and is now working at BioFocus plc in Cambridge. Our wedding page is online. On July 7, 2003, our son Aidan was born.

My curriculum vitae (résumé, CV) is available.
