This website is HTML 4.0 Transitional, CSS 2.1, ECMAScript (3rd edition), and DOM Level 2 compliant. Since Microsoft Internet Explorer does not fully support these standards, some attempt has been made to provide alternative coding to support its idiosyncrasies; however, for best results please use a standards-compliant browser (we recommend Mozilla Firefox).

The site is built from simplified-HTML source files by a custom Perl script, driven by GNU make. Text editing via emacs, image editing via the GIMP, scripted image manipulation using Netpbm and djpeg/cjpeg, graph generation via gnuplot and ps2pdf (a Ghostscript wrapper), vector graphics (buttons and headings) via CorelDRAW. Uploading via gFTP and a customised version of ftpsync. Hosting and domain registration by Black Cat Networks (highly recommended!). Backup by University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory.
