Aidan’s Big Adventure Part X: Homeward Bound

Sunday was our last day in Auckland, and Mummy, Daddy and I said goodbye to our motel suite, and went to Daddy's old church. It's a really friendly church and Daddy had a lovely time catching up with old friends. Then we went (against all tradition, but at their specific request!) to visit the newlyweds at their hotel to say goodbye.

We spent the afternoon with Grandma Tony and Grandpa Norman, before they took us to the airport. We had to say goodbye to them at the airport, which made all of us very sad :-( :-( .

I don't really remember very much of the flight to Los Angeles - I slept for nine hours out of eleven and a half. Buz met us the airport again, but something strange seemed to have happened. We left Auckland on Sunday evening, and arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday morning! Daddy said something about the "international date line", but I didn't really understand what he meant. What I do know though, is that I got to live Sunday twice over, and Sunday was a very special day - my five month birthday - yay!

Inspiration Point.

We had a lovely walk in the Will Rogers State Historic Park on Monday afternoon, to a place called Inspiration Point from which we could see lots of LA and way out across the Pacific Ocean. Then it was back to the airport again, and yet another plane.

The flight back to London was only nine and a half hours, and I was awake for at least half of that flight. It was fun looking out at the clouds - I made Mummy and Daddy take me for lots of walks up and down the aisles so I could see out the windows!

On the Tube.
On the Tube.

We arrived back in London on Tuesday lunchtime and took the slow tube train from Heathrow back to Kings Cross. It was a very relaxed journey compared the outward journey three weeks earlier. We took the train from Kings Cross back to Cambridge station. After that, there was a short taxi ride and we were home...!

Home at last!
Home at last!

So, my first Big Adventure is over: I've been to the other side of the world, travelled 24,000 miles (40,000 km), finally met my NZ grandparents and other NZ relatives, met lots of new friends, done lots of interesting things, been to lots of exciting places and had a fantastic time. I'm a bit sad it's all over, but it's good to be home again :-) . And better still: Mummy and Daddy promise me that there will be many more Big Adventures to come...
