Have I ever had an exciting couple of days!! I've been to the top of the world (well, almost!). We left Rotorua on Saturday and drove to Hamilton to visit Andrew and Sarah (university friends of Daddy's). Louise, another friend of Daddy's, was also staying with them so I got to meet her too. It's so much fun meeting new people.
On Sunday, Daddy, Mummy, Andrew, Louise and I (Sarah had a sore knee so she couldn't come with us :-( ) drove to the Coromandel Peninsula (south-east of Auckland) to climb the Pinnacles. The Pinnacles is a 759m summit in the Coromandel Ranges, formed from crystallised lava, with sheer drops on all sides, and spectacular views.
The first day we climbed up as far as the camping hut at the base of the final ascent. Mummy carried me on her back the whole way up - she thought that the days of carrying me around all the time were over on July 7th, and I'm more than twice the weight now!! I slept in a bunk bed for the first time that night. It was really cold, but Mummy wrapped me up nice and warmly and I slept pretty well, all things considered.
On Monday, Daddy carried me to the top of the world!! We climbed all the way up to the top of the Pinnacles - it was pretty steep in places and was a bit scary, but I knew Daddy would keep me safe. It was amazing - there was no wind (Daddy said this is really unusual though) and we could see for miles. We were so high up I felt like I was on top of the world!
All too soon we had to climb down again though - it was a long tramp back to the car and we still had to drive back to Auckland that evening. We went back to the hut first to have lunch, then Mummy carried me again and Daddy carried all the rest of our gear. I was so tired by all the excitment that I fell asleep on the way back down...
