Aidan’s Gallery: fourteen months old

Aidan is now fourteen months old. He's rapidly becoming a confident walker and is developing his climbing skills too. He can move very quickly now, so certainly keeps Mummy and Daddy on their toes.

It's been a fun couple of weeks, with a flying visit to Mummy's aunt and uncle over Bank Holiday weekend. As a special treat, Grandma and Grandpa met us there for the day - Aidan had a wonderful time showing off all his new skills! On the way home in the car, Aidan discovered shadows for the first time - Mummy glanced round to see him playing with the shadow of his hand on the car door (it kept him amused for ages!).

Aidan has had very sore teeth recently - the molars are on their way through. We've experimented with some different ways of trying to ease the pain for him - Aidan's favourite was having some yummy vanilla icecream! While the pain has caused him a few disturbed nights, overall his sleeping has dramatically improved, thanks to a change in routine, an earlier bedtime, and ensuring his daytime naps occur earlier in the day. His separation anxiety seems to be easing now as well, although he still finds Mummy or Daddy leaving him to be quite upsetting. Given distraction, though, he does recover from this very quickly.

Aidan's communications skills are noticeably improving on an almost daily basis. Verbally, his own language is expanding, and there is an occasional English word in there too. He's also communicating with us in other ways: on Wednesday 1st September, he brought a nappy to Daddy because he wanted a clean one. On Saturday 4th September, he was hungry after swimming so went to his change bag, got out his snack box and brought it to Mummy!

He's also starting to refuse his usual meals, but really loving "non-baby" food. He really enjoyed the cheese and sun-dried tomato omelette, and the courgette, carrot and potato croquettes Mummy made for him. And on Saturday, he had Daddy's chicken fried rice for lunch.

My new favouritest toy! Last week I discovered that Mummy and Daddy keep all their old jars in a box in the cupboard under the stairs, just waiting for me to pull them out one by one and carry them all around the house. They're great fun - you can even drink from them in the bath!
Learning to drive. This is me finally getting to sit where I belong - in the driver's seat. Did I tell you that I climbed in here all by myself? Learning to drive.
