Aidan is now fifteen months old. The last month has been a very busy and exciting month, with Aidan learning and enjoying new things almost every day. Now that the summer holidays are over, all his groups have started back. He goes to toddler groups on both Monday and Tuesday mornings with his childminder. On Wednesdays Daddy takes him to Tumbletots (now that he can walk, he's graduated from Gymbabes). Mummy takes him to swimming lessons on Thursdays and to playgroup on Fridays.
Aidan's speech is really developing now and he regularly uses at least ten words of English, including "daddy" and "mummy". His favourite song is "Old MacDonald had a farm" and he loves to sing "e-i-e-i-o" along with us. It's very obvious that he understands a lot of what we say now, and he's started to respond (usually) positively to our requests.
He enjoys going swimming and is very confident in the water now - he will "swim" under water from one person to another; he's doggy-paddling when he's got arm bands on; loves to jump from sitting on the side of the pool into Mummy or Daddy's arms; walks around in the pool and can usually rebalance himself if he stumbles, and if he fails he doesn't mind falling over and getting dunked.
Aidan now has his first walking shoes and he loves wearing them. His sense of balance has greatly improved, and he now runs about all over the place, and can turn on the spot and walk backwards. He still hasn't quite grasped the concept of going from A to B, unless he wants to go somewhere (so he won't walk to the park on his own yet, although this is getting better too). At Tumbletots, he spends most of his time running around, and climbing on the equipment. He's also learning to do a forward roll!
The separation anxiety Aidan had been experiencing ended (almost literally overnight) on September 6th. He's usually perfectly content being left on his own, and will put himself to sleep. He is still suffering from teething pain, both his upper first molars made their appearance last weekend, but the lower two first molars are nearly through and causing him a considerable amount of pain. This has caused him to waken at least a couple of times in the night.
Aidan has a wonderful time on Monday mornings and Tuesdays at his new childminder, Paula's. She has a three year old little boy, and also looks after a sixteen-month old little girl, and the three of them have a great time playing together. We had a few weeks of tearful farewells, but now he will go very happily.
Some of Aidan's other favourite pastimes include building towers from his bricks, riding his trike, playing in toy cars, reading books and playing on his trampoline. He also loved visiting Linton Zoo and playing in the Botanic Gardens, and enjoyed going to stay with his friends, Catherine and Emily, and trying to teach them how to walk!
