Aidan is now 16 months old! As usual, he's had a busy month, including a trip to Scotland to visit Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Jonathan - he hadn't seen them in a long time! While we were there, we visited Edinburgh Zoo and Aidan had a wonderful time running around the penguin and monkey enclosures. He was fascinated by all the animals and had a great time. He also decided to practise walking upstairs for the first time.
Inspired by the monkeys, Aidan has been working very hard on his climbing skills over recent weeks. He loves to climb onto the dining table and the sideboard, and in and out of his car seat. His highchair is proving more of a challenge, as it has a bar across the front, but he's worked out how to get in safely. Now... how to get out??
Aidan loves doing crafts and has had his first attempts at home of painting and baking. He likes to hum along (in tune) to "Twinkle, twinkle little star". Another favourite activity is switching light switches on and off (and on and off and...!). He's now worked out how to press the buttons in the correct sequence to make the television come on now too.
Mummy and Aidan have just started going to Jo Jingles once a week - a music and movement class which is lots of fun. Aidan's especially keen on playing the drums, although the triangle is pretty good too. Aidan also loves playing "telephones" - a mouse, a door stop, a remote control all make wonderful phones, and Aidan will say "Hiya" and start chatting away. At playgroup, however, the very best toy is the Little Tikes car, which he can play in for an hour without getting bored! It's very cute watching him going forward in it, or on his trike - he's not quite mastered the art of going forward sitting down, so he walks instead!
His third and fourth molars came through at the start of this month, and he's been enjoying being able to properly chew his food. He still enjoys trying new foods (although he doesn't always like them), but his all time favourite food remains plain, cooked pasta shells! His vocabulary is still improving daily, and he's learned how to say "juice" when he wants something to drink. He's also learning to eat with a spoon or a fork - his favourite being his fork.
Aidan also had his MMR vaccination earlier this month, with few side-effects. He had his first very nasty tummy bug at the weekend and was rather poorly for a few days. He also had his first ear infection not long before that. This has not stopped him enjoying the season however, and he enjoyed having a pumpkin lantern and seeing people dressed up in funny costumes at Hallowe'en. We took him to a couple of fireworks parties, and to the town fireworks display and, while he didn't enjoy all the loud noises, he was absolutely entranced by all the lights and colours.
