Aidan’s Gallery: twenty-three months old

One month to go until I'm two! This month I've been to Scotland twice, helping Mummy and Daddy look for a house and going on a family holiday in Aviemore. I had a great time going on safari at the Highland Wildlife Park, going up Cairngorm on the funicular, playing in Cyril's Tree House and on the waterslide, driving a car (with Daddy) at the Landmark Centre, and keeping eleven adults running after me.

My attention span dramatically increased this month - one day I curled up on the sofa with my duvet, and lay still and watched TV (Balamory?) for fifteen minutes solid! The extra concentration has really helped me with stacking my cups, working on my trains, and doing my two-piece jigsaws, and Mummy and Daddy were very glad on the long drives to and from Scotland that I was happy just to gaze out the window and watch the fields go by.

Daddy was very impressed when I answered the phone one afternoon with a bright and cheery "Hello Daddy!"!

I've been practising putting sentences together to show the grown-ups how much I understand. I can point to my nose and say "Aidan's nose", and to Daddy's nose and say "Daddy's nose". I can tell Mummy which bit of me is sore when I hurt myself. I even put together a five-word sentence last week ("Button make the music off", when I pressed pause on the media player on the laptop)! I've been reciting my nursery rhymes ("Two little dicky-birds", "Humpty Dumpty", ...), repeating words over to myself to make sure I get them, and being much more careful with people's names ("ungle onathan", "ungle chris").

Anklebiting Mummy! One of my current favourite occupations. This is usually accompanied by "up up Mummy". Anklebiting Mummy!

Feeding the ducks? At least that's what I was supposed to be doing, but the bread tasted so good...
Off into the sunset. I rode my car all the way from the lodge where we were staying down to the hotel. It was worth it, but I was so tired by the time I got there, that Daddy had to carry me all the way back! Off into the sunset.

Determination! I managed to carry my car, without any help, all the way to the top of the steps.
Asleep in a real bed for the first time, on Tuesday 31st. Mummy put chairs by the bed in case I rolled out, but I stayed in bed all night, and lay in bed the following morning singing "Pinkle Pinkle" until Mummy and Daddy came to get me up. Asleep in a real bed for the first time.
