Today (Monday), Aidan turned two weeks old. He's definitely growing, and not just in weight: he's getting himself into more of a sleeping routine, with longer feeds and longer sleeps (at least one four-hour stretch per day), and he's awake for longer and getting more interested in playing. When he does get tired but has trouble going to sleep, Daddy has discovered a very useful trick: the tumble-dryer! Noticing that when we walked past it he instantly quieted, evenings now find us sitting on the stairs by the dryer, listening to the white-noise hum of the mechanism and the regular, pulse-rate beating of the clothes against the drum. It very quickly sends him to sleep!

It's been an exciting few days -- on Friday his existence was registered and "Aidan Andrew McEwan WANSBROUGH" is now legal; on Saturday he extended himself socially, going out to a garden party hosted by our church minister; and on Sunday he had several visitors. He's still not appreciating the current heat in Cambridge; we hope it will cool down soon.

Aidan's still not quite old enough to play with toys, but we have lain him on his play mat several times and he's beginning to be interested by it. Here Carolyn is showing Aidan its delights.

Aidan is always happy to have his nappy changed by Daddy. We've organised a proper changing station now, with a table (precision engineered by Keith last week) sitting on top of the travel cot, and all the paraphernalia readily to hand.

We took Aidan for a walk along the River Cam this afternoon; like driving, the rhythm of being pushed in the pram often sends him to sleep. It didn't this time (well, only very briefly), but it did fascinate him and keep him quiet for over 45 minutes, which in our book is a very useful achievement!
