Aidan is two years and eleven months old! He's had an exciting few weeks - one of the major events of which was coming down with chicken pox! Aidan was rather poorly, and had a very painful spot on the roof of his mouth for a few days, but otherwise escaped fairly lightly. The most difficult part was looking after an energetic toddler at home as we couldn't go out until the spots had scabbed over.
Aidan's been out to Callendar Park (where he had a great time playing on the bouncy castle - this was the first time he's gone on a full-sized one, he's always refused in the past) and had a wonderful time going with Daddy to the Scottish Railway Preservation Society's "Day out with Thomas", at the Bo'Ness and Kinneil Railway. Aidan also loved visiting some of Mummy and Daddy's favourite places in Glasgow, including Moyra Jane's cafe, and he had great fun playing under the Kingston Bridge. He's also been visiting friends - Steve, Varya, Benjamin & Toby; Rachel, and Josh, Mel, Jordan, Natalie and Samara.
Aidan coped very well with an unexpected stay at Grandma and Grandpa's house for a couple of days, when Megan was admitted to hospital with a nasty bout of chicken pox (see her 7.5 month page). He enjoyed his extra time with Grandma, Grandpa and Gungle, but clearly also appreciated a special Mummy&Aidan trip out for milkshake and to SpaceBugs, while Grandma looked after Megan on the day she came out of hospital.
Another exciting event was Aidan actually consented to have his hair cut properly (with clippers no less!) for the first time in about eighteen months!! After all the hysteria of past months, it was quite an anticlimax. Daddy explained it all to Aidan for a couple of days in advance, there was some toddler-style protest at going in and sitting down, Daddy sat down with him on his lap anyway, and then there was no problem at all - Aidan was actually quite interested!
We also went on holiday to Aviemore this month. Aidan shared a room with his little sister for the first time this week, and also gave up his dummy (which he had been using for sleeping). Both events had an impact on his sleeping and it took him most of that week to get used to them both. But he had a good time nonetheless - enjoying going walking (or being carried in the MacPac back carrier by Daddy - yes, the same one he was in when he went up the Pinnacles!), swimming (he loved propelling himself around the pool on a couple of woggles), and to the Landmark Centre (see Megan's page for more details).
Aidan has been amazing us with how quickly he picks things up. On one occasion we were playing with the blocks...
- Take 8 blocks.
- Build a 7 block high tower (it fell on the 8th block).
- Make it into a tunnel using two 2-block towers.
- Mummy makes a top for the tunnel using a toy.
- Make two tunnels by using four 2-block towers.
- Mummy arranges said towers in a row and puts a 30cm plastic ruler along the top. Mummy asks "what's that?"
- Aidan replies "a viaduct"!

Aidan with chicken pox. Carolyn first noticed spots on the 8th; this is two days later, when they were probably at their worst. It wasn't pleasant, but he got off lightly compared with Megan. |

So tired he fell asleep in his toybox! Keith added the pillow just before taking the photo. |
| After the haircut! As you can see, it was quite short... | ![]() ![]() Image 0053-1084 Canon PowerShot S45 1/499 sec., f/2.8 2006:05:29 11:33:39 UTC (c) Keith & Carolyn |

Looking like a walker. In reality, he insisted on being carried almost all the way there and back, after scratching his knee slightly as we crossed the road to begin. We were not impressed. At Achnagoichan (we saw only the traditional frontage of this cottage, not the fascinating interior and rear shown in these photos!), NH914082, near Loch an Eilein. |
| Photography with Gungle at the Landmark Centre. For the holiday we got out the little digital camera that Aidan got for Christmas, and he had lots of fun taking photos with it.
