Aidan is now twenty-five months old. This month began with his second birthday celebration on Saturday 9th July. Lots of his friends came round to play, and Aidan enjoyed showing off his new climbing frame!
July also saw the end of term for most of Aidan's usual activities, and we had a bit of a sad time saying farewells, knowing that when they restart after the summer, we will be in Scotland. We also had lots of more happy events in July, including a visit to Shepreth Wildlife Park (Aidan loved seeing the tigers), giving Daddy a surprise birthday party and making special "Thomas the Tank Engine" fairy cakes for him on the day, having Grandma and Grandpa to stay and going out for his first Chinese meal, and meeting Andrew and Sarah (friends of Daddy's from New Zealand) again when they came to visit for a long weekend.
Aidan's been working hard on his vocabulary and sentence construction this month. He understands and uses well over 350 words, not including the words he just "parrots" back when you say them. He also used a six-word sentence when he asked to go "downstairs and see all the lights" - we were upstairs at the time, and he wanted to go down and see the lights in the garden.
Aidan has discovered that playing with other children, not just alongside them, can be lots of fun. He's been enjoying playing ball with the little boy next door, having sand fights, and copying and chasing games with some of his other friends. He's also expended lots of energy working out how many different things he can do on his new climbing frame - not only is it great for climbing and sliding, the platform makes a pretty good trampoline, and he also loves to swing from the frame and then drop down. One of his favourite tricks is to come down the slide backwards, while sitting up. All his Tumbletots training is showing now, and he's a very confident climber.
Another fun activity for this month has been to invent lots of different kinds of tunnel that he either can make or can induce a grown up to make for him - so we have a "lego tunnel", a "brick tunnel", a "book tunnel", a "Maisy tunnel" (similar to the book tunnel, but made out of a Maisy book - Aidan's favourite book series), a "tree tunnel" (originally the willow trees overhanging the River Cam, but also a tree-lined avenue), a "Daddy tunnel" (between Daddy's legs), an "Aidan tunnel" (between Aidan's legs), and both a "short" and a "long" "cushion tunnel" (the short tunnel using two of the sofa cushions, and the long tunnel using all four cushions!).

Visiting the tigers at Shepreth Wildlife Park. Aidan loved climbing to the top of these steps beside the tiger enclosure, and then down the other side, and then underneath, then up to the top, then down the other side, then...! Much more fun than watching sleeping tigers. |
| Playing with his magnadoodle. Aidan loves to draw on his magnadoodle, but also likes it when Mummy draws shapes for him to name and other pictures (especially a house with windows and doors and a sun in the sky). | ![]() ![]() Image 0042-8045 Canon PowerShot S45 1/60 sec., f/2.8 2005:07:10 18:02:17 UTC |

The Architect. Aidan practises building a tower out of his Lego bricks. He's been learning all about balance - if you put too many bricks out on one side, the whole thing topples over! |
