Aidan is now twenty-six months old. It's been a busy month: helping Mummy and Daddy get ready for the move to Scotland, visiting and having friends to play, and learning lots of new things.
He is really starting to show preferences: he likes helping Mummy choose presents for his friends' birthdays, and he will tell us which clothes he wants (or doesn't want!) to wear!
Aidan will now happily sit through long stories that a couple of weeks ago he would have lost interest in after the first few pages. He absolutely loves reading now (both being read to, and reading himself), and if he wants to read Maisy's Train, then Maisy's Bus will not suffice!
His current favourite television programme is Something Special, a programme designed to teach sign language to very young children and the presenter always sings and signs the same song at the beginning and end of each programme. One day Mummy had been singing this song to Aidan and, when she couldn't remember the last line of the song, Aidan actually correctly completed it for her!
Aidan has been showing signs of interest in potty training over the last little while and has used the potty on several occasions. After seeing Mummy empty it in the toilet, the next time he used it he picked it up, carried it to the bathroom and carefully emptied the contents down the toilet! We're waiting until we are properly settled in Scotland before going any further, though.
Independence has been a theme this month. He's rejecting his highchair in preference for his booster seat. He will usually get himself undressed at bathtime, and will help get himself dressed in the mornings. After scraping his knee on one occasion, he carefully cleaned it himself and asked for the Germolene to put on it. He will also tell us more and more about what he is doing, and is more intentional about what he wants to do (or eat, or wear), and what he wants us to do.
One big excitement for Aidan this month was a visit to York, to go to Auntie Allie and Uncle Ken's wedding. He had lots of fun there, and behaved very well during the service! This month he also spent time with several other friends from the south who will sadly be a lot further away when we're in Scotland: Andrew and Sarah, Sophie and Isaac, Sheila and Jason and Catherine and Emily, Paula and Jack, Heather and Rebecca, and Kathleen and Adam. He will miss them.
