Aidan’s Gallery: four years old

Aidan is four years old! Happy 4th Birthday Aidan!! He had a wonderful birthday, including a trip to Chatelherault (alt), and a family barbeque in the evening. He received lots of lovely presents - thank you very much to everyone :-) - and he loved his special aeroplane birthday cake. It was modelled on a Boeing 777 (we flew to New Zealand in this type of aeroplane), and we were very impressed that Uncle Jeff actually recognised our creation as such! We're still trying to figure out how he knew!

Aidan had lots of fun playing with Becca, when she and her Mummy and Daddy came to stay for a couple of nights earlier in the month. Linzi, Neil and Adam also joined us for brunch that weekend - it was Aidan's favourite breakfast of waffles, bacon and maple syrup, and resulted in some very happy, sticky children!

It was also lovely to have a flying visit from Auntie Elaine and Uncle Chris - they stayed overnight with us before going to perform their puppet show at the Royal Highland Show. Aidan also enjoyed meeting a special group of Grandma and Grandpa's friends, who were in Scotland for a reunion party. Daddy and Aidan also went to the Fellowship Group barbeque at church.

Once again, on the "first Tuesday after the second Thursday" in June, we went to the annual Riding of the Marches in Linlithgow. This year, Grandpa's guest was Andrew (Jill's boyfriend), and Aidan rode round the Cross perched on his shoulders. Another fun event was the day trip we took to Loch Lomond to watch Grandma and Grandpa go for their seaplane trip (a sixtieth birthday present from their children). Aidan had a great time throwing stones into the Loch from the pier, and creating all sorts of channels, and carparks(?!?) in the sand on the beach!

We've been to Muiravonside with Diane, Ruth and the children; but also met some new friends who have joined us sometimes - Wendy (with little Mia); and Donna (with Katie and Louise). We've been to Beecraigs too, and down to the playpark by Linlithgow Loch. After the latter, as a special treat, we went to Cameron's for a hot chocolate. The children were provided with crayons and paper and Aidan drew a wonderful circuit diagram! As Aidan has never particularly been interested in drawing, Mummy and Daddy were very impressed with this!

Aidan went on his first ever Sunday School trip this month - to Chatelherault Country Park (alt). Unfortunately the weather wasn't too great, so we had lunch in the Visitor's Centre and then headed for Brico's - a soft-play area in nearby Hamilton. What we saw of the park was enough to convince us we wanted to go back, which was why we selected that particular destination for Aidan's birthday treat.

Aidan's current favourite activity is "bike cycling" (as he calls it), but he's still a bit nervous when coming downhills, after taking a tumble and skinning his knee. He spends most of his time playing outside in the garden, or in the playhouse, constructing, creating and inventing new games. He also loves playing with Gungle :-) .

Aidan went to visit the nursery school he will be attending after the summer holidays. He was a little apprehensive just at first, with all the new faces, but spotted the goldfish tank and the little library which enticed him in. Thereafter he enjoyed playing a computer game, having a snack, meeting his group teacher, as well as the nursery leader, and playing with the stickle-bricks. He seems to be very much looking forward to starting in a few weeks time.

Aidan went to his last playgroup sessions this month, and enjoyed the magician at the playgroup end-of-term party. The summer holidays, however, did not start well, with Aidan coming down with a nasty bug involving extremely high temperatures (it reached 41.7°C on one occasion) and a couple of emergency trips to the doctor. It was "just" a bug though - we know of at least seven or eight other people who also experienced the same thing. It took about a week for Aidan to recover from it but thankfully he was back to himself again in time for his fourth birthday... when Megan proceeded to come down with the same thing!

There are normally only six or seven children and three adults, but on this occasion there were three more adults and four more children. We went for our usual hour long walk round the farm (to see the horses, llamas, pigs, pheasants and assorted other small animals, ducks and birds), and on down to the river (Avon) for a walk along its banks, before going back up to the play park for snack time!

Aidan in the jungle! All the wet weather we've had recently certainly helped the grass to grow (and stopped Daddy from mowing it!). Aidan in the jungle!
