Aidan is four years and eight months old. We've had a lovely few weeks, including several play dates with a number of friends, a trip to the cinema, lunch with one of Grandma's friends with her daughter and grandson, a visit to Montrose for Becca and Sarah's Blessing, a birthday party, a trip to Inverness to visit Auntie Elaine and Uncle Chris, and a family weekend away!
With so much else happening, we could only manage a brief visit to Inverness this month, but Aidan and Megan loved seeing their Auntie and Uncle again! We went to the park on the Sunday afternoon to discover it was somewhat flooded - not that that stopped the kids having lots of fun!
The four of us had a wonderful weekend away, staying in a lovely old farmhouse Bed and Breakfast in Gullane, which is east of Edinburgh. We spent lots of time on the lovely beaches there, and paid a visit to North Berwick, to Dunbar and to East Links Family Park.
During the week, we normally get out to the park several times, both with friends and on our own, we also meet friends to go swimming once a week, and also to one of the local soft plays. It's good for the children to spend time playing with their friends, while expending lots of energy too!
On the downside, Aidan's grommets came out at the end of January, and his ear problems came back with a vengeance. He had two consecutive ear infections, one of which resulted in a perforation and some deafness. We took him back to see his ENT consultant who confirmed that Aidan had glue ear in his right ear, and he had approximately 30% hearing loss. As the left ear looked okay we were asked to take him away, keep a diary of which ears were sore, and to bring him back after about six-eight weeks to make a decision on whether to put grommets in one or both ears.
Aidan is very good and copes very well, usually, with the pain, and he's been making great progress with both his writing and his other creative projects. He loves to play with playdough and, after discovering that playdough could be dried out in the oven and hardened, he's made some very interesting ornaments - one of our favourites was he designed and made a tealight holder out of stars joined together, which he replicated in Fimo for Mother's Day.
Aidan has also been practising his writing skills and, after doing a little work on writing letters at home, he has actually written his name for the first time - we are very proud of him!
