Aidan started smiling this week! Carolyn was "bopping" his nose,
and he broke into a huge grin! He's continued to give us wide glowing
smiles, but sadly not (yet) for the camera. Carolyn had a bit of
unwelcome excitement - on Wednesday her temperature was up to 38.9degC
(102degF) with mastitis, which meant she got another week-long course
of antibiotics. On the up side, it cleared up pretty quickly; but on
the down side, Aidan got a fair dose indirectly and has had an upset
tummy all week :-(. It's also been fairly hot in
Cambridge, as I noted in the news
entry.
In more "firsts", Aidan went on his first picnic this week, in the
grounds of Churchill College with his friend Ollie (and parents), and
he went to his first wedding: Richard and Joy, at St A's. He enjoyed
both, although he did sleep through most of the wedding ceremony (we
didn't complain!).

On Friday (8 Aug) Aidan paid his first visit to Keith's work, and saw
some of his colleagues. From the left: Andrei, Daniele, Vilhelm,
Gareth. As usual, he slept right through the visit, misleading his
admirers into thinking he's always that quiet!

A few days earlier, Keith convinced Aidan to grasp his chain-link
rattle and they had a mini tug-of-war. On Sunday we managed to get
this picture of him trying to repeat the feat.

Aidan enjoyed his first proper bath with Daddy on Sunday night. He
loves the water, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience - as did Daddy!
It won't be long before this will be a regular occurrence - he's
nearly grown out of his baby bath already.

Because he loves water so much, for his five-week-old birthday we
bought him an inflatable pool and set it up in the back yard. We were
amazed - he had a fabulous time, and is a real water baby, quickly
learning how far he could turn his head before getting his eyes wet.
He spent about half an hour in the pool, and we only took him out when
he started getting cold. You can see in the photo how much he's
interacting with us now (and smiling!).
