Aidan’s Gallery: five years seven months old

Aidan is now five years and seven months old! Find out most of what we got up to on Megan's three years and four months page.

Aidan really enjoyed the run-up to Christmas - and spent a considerable period of time decorating the playhouse, complete with Christmas tree and fairy lights. He and Megan also enjoyed their annual visit to the Santa Special at the local steam railway, with Grandma and Grandpa.

Aidan was rather unwell over Christmas itself, so was unable to join in much of the fun :-(. He had cold-like symptoms and temperature spikes - the doctor wondered if it might be scarlet fever, but thankfully on testing it turned out to be "just" a virus. This culminated in another perforated eardrum, and another course of antibiotics just afterwards. Between Christmas and New Year, Mummy and Daddy both got it too, which put back our preparations for moving rather dramatically! The kids did get to enjoy some extra time with Grandma and Grandpa though - including a trip to South Queensferry :-).

Aidan struggled a wee bit at school during those few weeks - the stress of our impending move (or more realistically, the impact of our stress on him :-( ) meant that he was finding it difficult to concentrate, particularly with his reading and writing. At his Parent-Teacher meeting, which we attended a couple of days before moving, his teacher said that he was having some difficulty "blending" the sounds into words. She wasn't overly concerned though, and we were hopeful that things would begin to settle down once he settled into his new school in Auckland.
