Aidan’s Gallery: five years nine months old

Aidan is now five years and three quarters! He's settled in really well in his class here in Auckland. He has been going to regular swimming lessons, and his school also put on a ten-day intensive swimming course. The combination of the two meant that he was put up a class in his regular lessons, and he came first and second in the two races he swam in the school swimming gala! Yay - well done Aidan! He also enjoyed a lovely school trip to Butterfly Creek.

At the end of term (which was term one), we had a parent-teacher meeting and were very pleased to find that he's been doing well socially, and was already reaching the end-of-term-two goals for both maths and reading. We're very relieved at this evidence of how well he's coped with the move out here :-).

Unsurprisingly he does get homesick occasionally though, and one evening, he woke up late at night and couldn't get back to sleep :-( . So, we suggested that he might like to email Grandma and Grandpa and Gungle. By doing so, he composed and typed his first ever email! It provided a good distraction and he was able to get back to sleep afterwards with relative ease.

First evening in Rotorua. Our lodge was right on the shores of the lake, with beautiful views and perfect weather. The island in the middle of the lake is Mokoia Island - it's bigger than it looks.
