Haig Pit Coal Mining Museum, Whitehaven. This is an excellent museum that Andrew took us to - very unassuming, but once you get into it there's a lot of history and plenty to entertain a mechanically-minded kid (or adult!). A beautifully-restored winding engine, some working models, and the guy who was looking after the museum gave us a thorough and fascinating guided tour.
