April 24: An afternoon at the beach (IV)
Back in Auckland, we spent an afternoon at St
Heliers Bay with Nan and Grandad. Nothing quite like an hour or
two at the beach!

Aidan getting Nan to do his work for him. In Napier Aidan watched
some local kids playing with a sand-and-water activity in one of the
parks on Marine Parade. They were digging channels in the sand, then
pulling the plug on some big reservoirs and running water throug the
channels. Subsequently whenever we went to a beach Aidan tried to
replicate this. Here he's dug a big channel, and has directed Nan to
pour some water in the top (transporting it in a convenient plastic
bag). Impressive engineering and management!

Megan in a big swing! Her first time in a proper swing (we think), and she loves it.

Megan scrambling on the rocks. She was amazingly sure-footed on the uneven surface.

Aidan on the rocks, with Rangitoto in the background. We spent some
time looking through rockpools, and found mostly tubeworms. Stunning
setting.
