April 26: On our travels again (V)

On Wednesday we drove down to visit Josh and Mel in Hamilton (an hour and a half south of Auckland), with their children Amy and Daniel. We last saw Amy when she was 14 months - now she's 4½! - and we'd never met Daniel. The kids loved playing together, and it was a lovely relaxing time for us too.

Aidan and Megan in the spa pool. Yes, that's right, Josh and Mel have a spa pool on the deck at the back of their house. It got a lot of use: when we arrived, Josh and Mel were just going out for an hour or so, so we relaxed in the pool while we waited for them to come back - then later when they returned we all went in together. And then in the evening once the kids were in bed we returned - out under the stars! (almost). Spa pools seem to be relatively common in NZ, and we're all very jealous.

The Taitua Arboretum. We took a lazy walk through the trees at this park, but the kids were most excited by the chance to chase a number of hens through the woods! The hens seemed well used to this style of entertainment.
