April 29: The wheelchair bike! (VI)

For the final week, we stayed in Heather and Martin's house (in Sarah's bedroom, thank you very much Sarah!). It was lovely to spend time with Daddy's sister, who we haven't seen for ages and ages and ages, and to catch up with our best man!

Grandad showing Aidan the Tornado Tube. Grandad and Aidan did several science experiments together, and this was one of them. The Tornado Tube is a special connector that lets you join two drink bottles together. Fill one with coloured water, turn it upside down and swirl it around, and you have a miniature twister in a bottle! Aidan loved it, and we now have the Tube at home.
Megan preferred playing the keyboard. She loved making music, with Nan looking on! Megan preferred playing the keyboard.

Painting the fence. On Tuesday morning Nan looked after the kids, and she had a cunning plan which reminded me of Tom Sawyer - she got the kids to paint the fence! Not with paint or whitewash though: She brought a bowl and two paintbrushes, and filled the bowl with water. Soon both kids were happily painting the fence and the driveway with water! It worked great - stayed on long enough to be quite visible, lots of fun, but no mess to clean up! After I took this photo, though, Megan picked up the bowl and decided to wear it as a hat... They also had fun decorating the driveway with coloured chalk.
Aidan's aeroplane in Heather and Martin's back yard. He spent most of the week playing with this, constructing and reconstructing it in various forms (it was a train at another point). Here he's just got Grandad to help him place the concrete blocks, and now they're in it together and flying back to Edinburgh. Aidan's aeroplane.

The wheelchair bike! Heather is in a wheelchair at the moment (with M.E.), and so Martin has been going to welding classes and modifying a bike so that it can be attached to her wheelchair. It's a great idea, and will give them lots of opportunity to go out and explore. When we were there Martin was just putting the finishing touches on, and they'd been to the end of the street and back. Here you can see Aidan enjoying a ride!
