Megan is now one and a quarter years old! Megan celebrated her second Christmas and New Year this month, cut another tooth, went to some parties, met lots of friends, and generally had a wonderful time.
For the first half of the month, life continued pretty much as normal, with Pre-5's, Fellowship group play, music and Gymbabes. Megan is loving going to Gymbabes at the moment, and goes happily on her own with Grandpa, which is very good to see - her separation anxiety is starting to calm down a bit now. We also had lunch out with friends, friends back to lunch, and occasionally out to lunch at the Golf Club.
Megan loved meeting Santa in his Grotto at the Canal Basin, and also at Rouken Glen Garden Centre Linlithgow. The former was especially exciting as it also meant that Megan got a short ride on a canal barge for the first time, which she enjoyed even more than meeting Santa! She also loved the Pre-5's Christmas party - running around in her party dress, and playing with Daddy, who had taken the morning off work to be there. Mummy, Aidan and Megan all took Grandma to meet her friend for lunch in Luss one day too - it was very exciting as much of Luss was flooded as the loch had risen so much with all the recent rain. Megan enjoyed meeting Auntie Marjory again, and showing off all her new walking skills.
One of Megan's favourite pre-Christmas activities was meeting Daddy after work one evening, seeing Edinburgh's Christmas lights, wandering through Princes Street Gardens, and then going to the German Market. For a long time now, Megan hasn't really shown much interest in food, but at the German Market she decided to sample what Mummy was having for dinner - Bratkartoffeln (German-style sauteed potatoes with bacon and onions) and she loved it - so much so that Daddy had to buy Mummy some more as Megan ate most of hers. This from the girl who has refused potatoes and isn't very keen on meat! (With hindsight, this proved to be something of a turning point, and Megan will now eat lamb and chicken and lasagne in small quantities, which she would have refused completely in the past. Her body must be in need of protein. Whatever - it makes Mummy very happy!).
Then it was Christmas - Megan's second. She loved all the festivities. She enjoyed opening her presents, but much preferred all the attention she received from everyone. Lots of her favourite people were around over Christmas - Auntie Elaine and Uncle Chris (who stayed with us), Great-Auntie Jeanne and Great-Uncle Jeff, Philip and Jill (now back from Australia - Megan really loved getting to know her for the first time), and David, Neil and his girlfriend. It was a very busy time, but lots of fun. New Year was a little quieter, but Megan seemed very happy, even if she didn't eat much of the five-course dinner we had with Grandma, Grandpa, Gungle, Chappie and Jim on New Year's Day.
Megan is becoming really rather independent now, and prefers to walk rather than be pushed in her buggy. When Lorna and Andrew came to visit, we went out for a walk in the twilight. She started out in her buggy, but then insisted on getting out and walking a considerable chunk of the way home. She also had a lovely walk up at Beecraigs with Daddy, and a walk to the park and round the estate with Mummy.
Megan suffered a fair bit with teething pain over the festive period, particularly over New Year. Her thirteenth tooth (top left cuspid) appeared on December 30th, but there are obviously more on the way!
The festive period ended with a lovely visit from Jo - a friend of Daddy's from New Zealand, and Andrew - another NZ friend. Megan had lots of fun playing with Jo at home, and also at the Irn Bru Fun Factory play area at the Falkirk Wheel, which we visited on the Friday after New Year.
Megan's fifteen month birthday was celebrated on Wednesday, and it was marked uneventfully by a simple return to normal routine - Fellowship group play in the morning and a lovely long nap in the afternoon - very much needed after all the festivites of Christmas and New Year!
