Carolyn’s Pregnancy
Being pregnant involved lots of routine check-up appointments, blood tests, and scans. Carolyn was blessed with a very straightforward pregnancy with few complications. The birth itself proved to be anything but straightforward and uncomplicated, but that's another story! Below is a list of some of the important dates during the nine months before Megan's arrival.
| Thursday, 27th January, 2005 | Did home pregnancy test: POSITIVE! (4+4 weeks) |
| Thursday, 3rd February, 2005 | Saw doctor, told I would be contacted by midwife. (5+4 weeks) |
| Wednesday, 9th February, 2005 | Pre-booking appt with midwife. Discussed previous pregnancy and birth, and filled in forms. (6+3 weeks) |
| Wednesday, 9th March, 2005 | Dating scan. My dates and scan dates concur. Met consultant to discuss history. Routine blood tests also performed. (10+3 weeks)) |
| Wednesday, 6th April, 2005 | Routine blood tests. (14+3 weeks) |
| Monday, 9th May, 2005 | Further routine blood tests. (16+2 weeks) |
| Thursday, 19th May, 2005 | Anomaly scan. Baby is a GIRL! (20+4 weeks) |
| Tuesday, 14th June, 2005 | 24 week appt with midwife. (24+2 weeks) |
| Wednesday, 13th July, 2005 | 28 week appt with GP. Heard heartbeat for the first time. (28+3 weeks) |
| Tuesday, 16th August, 2005 | 32 week appt with midwife. (33+2 weeks) |
| Saturday, 20th August, 2005 | Mummy starts having painful contractions and ended up in hospital. After being monitored for several hours, they concluded that Megan had just moved to an awkward position which triggered the contractions. Both a midwife and a registrar examined me that day, and neither worked out that the "awkward" position was not simply a posterior presentation, but a breech one, despite finding the heartbeat in an unusual place. | Wednesday, 7th September, 2005 | Move out of our house in Cambridge. (36+3 weeks) |
| Friday, 9th September, 2005 | Move in to our new house in Falkirk. (36+5 weeks) |
| Monday, 12th September, 2005 | 37 week appt with midwife (first appt in Scotland. (37+1 weeks) |
| Wednesday, 21st September, 2005 | 38 week appt at hospital - met several midwives, and my consultant. Again no-one had any inkling that anything was amiss. (38+3 weeks) |
| Sunday, 2nd October, 2005 | Expected due date! (40 weeks) |
| Wednesday, 5th October, 2005 | Midwife appt (40+3 weeks) |
| Monday, 10th October, 2005 | 0449 MEGAN ARRIVED!! (41+1 weeks) |
